It is a special year for us, one in which we have focused on the Grand Ole Opry House mission not only to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists into our midst, but to give back to the community through free events and community partnerships designed to showcase local artists.

The legend began in 1925 with a live radio performance by one Uncle Jimmy Thompson - an 80-year-old fiddle player. His performance was the beginning of what became the longest-running live radio show in the world. Indeed the show grew to become so popular that increasingly larger venues were sought out to house the crowds - resulting in a move to the Ryman Auditorium in 1943. Finally though, in 1974, it was time to leave what had become country music's spiritual home and move into a venue whose sole purpose was to enthrall crowds with the latest in country tunes.…...more!
